The most superb automobiles of the evening (to me) were the Nest and the Opel. I didn’t catch what fuel the Nest runs on but I thought it was an interesting concept and I liked its safety features. Although the Opel runs on diesel I thought its fuel efficiency was awesome (113mpg) and it also has a modest top speed of 155mph. It seemed asinine that the majority of the show dealt with automobiles that could exceed 300 mph: as the multitude of signs in Quebec state, “La vitesse tue.” It would seem more beneficial if researchers focused on alternative fuel, mileage, and safety for automobiles instead of the luxury of speed and voice activation. (There were only a couple of cars that focused on alternative fuel (hydrogen)).

I taped the episodes because I knew I would not be able to watch them when aired, so I just finished watching the first Episode on "The Extremes" and I thought it was amazing how technologically advanced society is becoming. The most impressive automobiles to me where the trucks, particularly because I really enjoy trucks, but current trucks are not fuel efficient or very environmentally sound. It would be nice to see such environmentally conscious vehicles arise in the future, without the expensive cost it seems to require to produce such vehicles. One thing I noticed is how the majority of the automobiles created had this "need for speed." They could exceed ridiculous speeds (over 200 and 300 mph), which the average everyday person would not even consider traveling at. I feel like rather than be so concerned with speed, automobile creators and students should continue focusing their efforts in making vehicles more environmentally safe with alternative fuels and what not, better mileage, and safety, rather than how fast they will get people from place to place. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed at the creativity, especially when it came to the final group of students who created vehicles for people in generation "i."
